Zinfandel

I don't drink a lot of Zinfandel, not that i don't like it but it's hard to find a good one reasonably priced. When I do I tend to like the robust, full bodied, ripe peppery Zin's.
Like to know how popular is it with you guys, what's peoples general thoughts on Zinfandel and has anybody had any lately that they can recommend ?

Hi Spike,
You might know this already so please forgive me but Italian Primitivo is thought by many to be the same grape as a spicy Zin so could be worth a punt ?
Tesco Fest has an Orso on at present for £5

Thanks 1kev,
Not tried the Orso Primitivo, (Is it the same grape as Zinfandel ?. Opinions differ but as far as i know it is virtually identical)
Might get a bottle to try whilst it's on special half price offer. I noticed CliveC did a review of this recently and suggested it might be better with food.

Afternoon!
You probably all already know this (as I say it all the time!) but Zin's are one of my favourite wines! It goes down really well when ever my friends are over so it's always my go-to wine for dinner parties ;-)

Spike ever tried Bonterra's Zin?

I found it to be a lovely drop and the bonus is it's organic so you can't feel guilty when enjoying it!

If you do decide to try it let me know what you think as I believe it's a benchmark Zin at an affordable price.

Hi Spike,

I agree with you about zin, anything under £10 tends to be a big, boozy fruit bomb with not much character. I think the Californians tend to keep the best stuff for themselves and any decent exports are very expensive.

Why not try touring the Napa Valley Big Grin

My daughter recently returned from a holiday in Croatia and brought me back a bottle of 'Tomic Plavac Mali Barrique 2007'.

The Plavac Mali grape is closely related to Primitivo and tends to be called the 'Croatian Zinfandel.' According to the locals i'ts very good. This was backed up by my daughter and her party who drank a bottle over a Croatian dinner and they all thought it was stunning.

At around £30 a bottle, not sure when I'll get around to opening it might save it for a special occasion.

Got to agree on the Bonterra Zinfandel, it's a lovely Wine. It should be available at London Wine Fair so you can give it a try there.

Hi Spike, got to say Ravenswood Lodi Zin is superb, full of deep black fruits and great with BBQ steak.

Thanks saunderss288, I've been tempted by the Ravenswood for a while and never got round to trying it yet, perhaps I should.
