What I drank last night

Tesco Finest Gewurztraminer

Opened a bottle last night from the latest delivery, absolutely first class. I think that this is my favourite white of all the under £10 wines i have drunk in the last couple of years.
Do any other members feel the same about this wine?

Not tried Tesco Finest but i do like Gewurztraminer in general especially when paired with Chinese or Spicy Food.

Have to agree with spikedc - Gewurztraminer good with a Chinese takeaway, as is a Reisling Spatlese.

Not tried the Tesco one so far - is it 'on offer'?

Simply adore it, but prefer ones from the Southern hemisphere.

Need to get some, tried once on a tour and enjoyed greatly. Thanks for the reminder!

This is a fabulous wine, i loved the Turkish Delight flavours. Great with oriental dishes!

I tried it last year with the Clubcard Exchange Finest Wine vouchers and it was a big hit.

Agree about southern hemisphere Gewürztraminer.
Some great Chilean examples from cono sur and casillero del Diablo; lusciously fruity but refreshingly dry.

Generally Gertwurztraminer is for me a much under appreciated wine, some people I know have not even heard of it. I think it's fabulous, love those floral and exotic flavours and if you haven't tried it you must.
Got a couple of bottles of the Finest but still not got around to drinking them yet, must rectify that soon !

Love the original Alsace version which we came across years ago by chance whilst on holiday in the region.
At that time it was really hard to find in supermarkets here but, thankfully, not any longer.
Especially like it with traditional 'choucroute garni'.

Opened a bottle of Finest Alsace Gerwurztraminer tonight to pair with a Chinese takeaway.

I must say Gerwurztraminer is a strange wine in many ways and is very much growing on me more and more. Each bottle is very different but rarely bad, flavours range from floral to very floral to extremely floral to fruity to exotic and spicy.

This bottle was well chilled and when first poured not as aromatic as i thought it would be, it was a faintly floral and perfumy like a bowl of Potpourri that's been out for a while but what stood out most was overipe melon almost to the point of being too ripe and turning, although that sounds not particularly good it was a strangely inviting smell.

Taste- Didn't quite taste as the aroma dictated, there was now the hallmark rose petally, liquid Turkish delight flavour. Exotic fruits coming though along with sweetish spice. This was not cloying but off dry, very fresh and lively although with a slight bitter taste.

My Chinese had lots of different dishes including quite a bit of spice and what ever flavours were in my mouth the wine handled it brilliantly. This for me along with other Gerwurz I've tasted is the perfect partner for Asian and spicy food.

Summing up, this Gerwurztraminer is another very good wine from the very reliable Finest range and a bottle i wouldn't hesitate to buy again ( In fact i did buy another couple of bottles in store yesterday)
