Sherry

Anybody a fan of Fino/Manzanilla sherry?. I must admit I've only started appreciating these. I love the Sea salty freshness and that great Almond nuttty flavour. On a hot summers day ice cold with Spanish Tapas , can't beat it.

LOVE Sherry, vastly overlooked IMHO! Usually have a small bottle of Fino or Manzanilla in the fridge, especially good now the sun is shining...and dry Amontillado another favourite.

I'm a huge fan of both Manzanilla and dry Fino Sherry. I've been lucky enough to visit the Gozales Byass, Sandemans and Williams & Humberts bodegas in Jerex and tasted many excellent Finos including Tio Pepe and Pando - both of which I highly recommend. However, I think on balance I do prefer Manzanilla - with La Gitana being among the best I've tasted. Definitely needs to be kept in the fridge though - nothing worse than room temperature Manazanilla (or dry Fino)!

Yes, yes, yes! There were quite a few to taste at the Tesco Wine Fair in Bristol last autumn and I am looking forward to sampling a few more this year!

Sounds good Deborah, hopefully some at this years Fair as well. I'm a late convert to the joys of Sherry and anybody out there that hasn't tasted a good Manzanilla or Fino should give it a go. It's a little bit of an acquired taste but until you try you'll never know. if you think Sherry is just a sweet tipple think again on a hot summers day chilled a good Manzanilla is superb.

I'm a Sherry fanatic too! For a really refreshing cocktail, try mixing Fino with lemonade, 50:50 mix, and serve over ice. Called a 'Rebujito' it's a drink that everyone enjoys (when not drinking straight Sherry) during the Feria de Jerez. Perfect on a sunny day such as today. If you love Sherry and tapas, then do try and get down to Jerez for the Feria in May. I'm an annual pilgrim to this fantastic Spanish week-long party!

I'm doing a tapas night for friends next week - garlic prawns, chorizo and marinated peppers, patates bravas etc. Any recommendations for sherry to go with it? Ps I've got loads of vina mara Rioja too!

Hi saunderss288, the 'Solear Barbadillo' Manzanilla is excellent and 'Tio Pepe' is always good.
I've still got to try the 'Finest Special Reserve Manzanilla' so can't comment on that yet.
