Looking for some wine and not sure what to buy? Let the UK’s wine experts give you a helping hand. Every week in the national newspapers and magazines, some of the UK’s best known wine buffs recommend wines for their readers. Below is a selection of wines from Tesco recommended over the weekend:
Matthew Jukes, Daily Mail, Saturday 4th August 2012
Macon Villages 2011, £4.99
"I cannot believe that decent Macon can be found for under a fiver - so get in quick. Boasting neat, crisp chardonnay flavours, and a jolly, summer air, this wine is a stunning decathlete of a wine that would be spot on with salads and lighter fish dishes."
Victoria Moore, Daily Telegraph, Saturday 4th August 2012
Jacob’s Creek Moscato 2011, £7.49
"In contrast to Gallo's fruity moscato, the Jacob's Creek version plays more to the floral character of this grape. It tastes lighter and more floaty, a little bit more moscato-ish if I am honest. It's not quite as sweet either (it has 55-65g per litre of residual sugar compared to the Gallo's 73g/l) and comes in a bottle that has surely been designed in order to make you feel thirsty."
Jamie Goode, Sunday Express, Sunday 5th August 2012
JP Chenet Light Merlot 2011, £4.99
"Perfect for summer sipping, this is a light, fruity, precise red with appealing berry flavours and less than half the normal alcohol content."
Olly Smith, Mail on Sunday, Sunday 5th August 2012
Simply Cotes du Rhone NV, £3.79
"Another great value bottle from the Rhone; perfect for a weeknight glug. Honest red with a tongue-spank of spice and a price to make you smile"
