To round off a very successful year for wine awards, Tesco has been named Retailer of the Year by the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). For those unfamiliar with this contest, the IWSC, now in its 44th year, is considered the premier competition of its kind in the world.
The award was announced last night at a presentation dinner hosted at the Guildhall in the City of London. Category Buying Manager Alain Guilpain and I, who attended the event, were thrilled when we heard ‘Tesco’ called out and proudly went up to collect the trophy.
This is a wonderful way to end the year – having recently been named Supermarket of the Year for the first time at the Decanter Awards, and having won the International Wine Challenge Retailer of the Year 2012 trophy – it is thrilling to complete the hat-trick!
Awards like this from peers in the industry are wonderful at helping us highlight the quality of wines available at Tesco. Being named as the Retailer of the Year is a fantastic achievement and testimony to both the great range of wines at Tesco but more importantly the brilliant team behind the wines.
So why not celebrate with us and take a trip to your local Tesco store or visit Tesco Wine by the Case to pick up a bottle of our award winning wines!! I’ll definitely be popping open a bottle of our finest* Premier Cru Champagne this evening to celebrate!
