Last night was the annual International Wine Challenge dinner and awards presentations – basically the wine industry’s version of the Oscars. So pretty exciting stuff for us in the Tesco wine team.

Tesco was battling it out with Waitrose and M&S for the prestigious ‘Supermarket of the Year’ trophy. 

The awards took place at the Hilton, Park Lane with everyone dressed up in their finery. Following a drinks reception guests were seated for dinner and the awards were announced. Supermarket of the Year was one of the last merchant awards of the evening, and when the shortlist was announced – you could almost hear a pin drop.

When the presenter called out ‘Tesco’ as the winner – the whoops and cheers of delight were deafening.

This result ensured a fantastic evening was had by all – Tesco Finest Premier Cru NV champagne was flowing and three further trophies for 

The members of the wine team that were present at the awards dinner partied into the wee small hours of this morning and today’s hangover is a small price to pay in the knowledge that Tesco is the IWC Supermarket of the Year!
