I was at the bi-annual Wines of South Africa tasting yesterday, held at the Earls Court Exhibition centre. An interesting tasting and a great opportunity to hunt out some new wines for the range. One thing really caught my eye though and it wasn't a wine, it was a wine label.
With the amount of mandatory information we need to put on labels; barcodes, alcohol levels, units and other legal information, there's not much room left to actually talk about the wine inside! This brilliant new label design has a nifty 'folding page' design, which opens like the page of a book giving a whole load of additional space. It was really good quality, and you could open and close it many times without it losing its 'stick'. Brilliant, what could it be used for? More info about the wine, perhaps a recipe for a dish that goes perfectly with the wine, info about other wines in the range, maps of where the wine is made, competitions, QR Codes, vouchers for discounts on next purchase....the list goes on.Oh, and you'll be able to check out these labels yourself in a few weeks when these wines, The Garden Route Chenin and The Garden Route Shiraz, are launched in our stores. If you spot the bottle let me know what you think.
